Where the Night Belongs to Everyone: Evenings at The Black

Somewhere between the fairy lights and the food trucks, something beautiful happens.

By day, Collingwood Black and The Black is all soft timber, steam, and stillness — the kind of place where you breathe deeper without even realising it.

But when the sun dips low and the fairy lights flicker to life, something shifts.
Not loudly. Not suddenly. Just… naturally.

The space exhales.
And slowly, gently, the night begins.

The Black Marketplace Awakes

Once a builder’s yard. Now a courtyard of connection.

Each first Friday of the month, The Black Marketplace transforms into something alive and glowing.
The food trucks roll in with promise.
Guitars tune. Glasses clink.
And the people come — not in a rush, but in waves.

Dogs settle under long tables.
Friends hug like they haven’t seen each other in years — even if it’s only been a week.

It’s not just dinner.
It’s ritual. Rhythm. A reminder that good things are still happening all around us.

A Place That Grows With Its People

What James and Kirstie have created here isn’t just a venue — it’s a kind of living, breathing extension of the people who visit it.

It shifts with the seasons.
It welcomes whoever walks through the gate.
It doesn’t need polish or pretense. It already has soul.

And though it’s part of the wider Craft’d Grounds, it carries its own heartbeat — quieter, maybe, but full of intention. Full of care.

For Us, It’s More Than Familiar

It’s not just our second home.
It’s the place where we held our wedding reception.
The place we’ve sat and shared countless coffees and slow mornings.
And on this night, it became the place we got to give something back — through lens, light, and love.

We arrived early. Stayed late.
Watched as golden hour turned into magic hour.
Listened to the way laughter rose with the smell of woodfire and spice.
And tried — with everything we had — to bottle that feeling.

Not to sell it. Not to stage it.
But to honour it.

What You Feel Here Lingers

You might come for the music. The food. The wine.
But you stay because there’s something intangible holding it all together.

It’s the way time slows.
The way the lights bounce off the warehouse walls.
The way everyone seems to be exactly where they’re meant to be —
without needing to say a word.

And when you leave, you carry a little of it with you.

That’s the mark of a special place.

Final Thought

Some spaces are built to be used.
Some to be rented.
And some — rare, quiet, unassuming — are built to be loved.

The Black at night is one of those.

It’s the kind of space that feels less like a venue, and more like a memory forming in real time.

We’re grateful we got to capture it.
And even more grateful that it exists.
